NEW AIRPLANE PROJECT - updated 12/31/08 - video added: PROFILE PATTERN PLANE
this is an experimental project in building a flat wing airplane
project 1 project 2 project 3 project 5 >>

this must be the last airplane ill be building for 2008

latest update on project: airplane did not climbed very well and resulted to a dive because of insufficient angle of attact in the main wings.
airplane tend to be so be very slippery despite of a heavy nose. it is necessary for non-airfoiled wing to have enough angle of attack to successfuly fly.

photo added 12/19/08 - tail and fins covered with paper and coated with very thin single layer of marine epoxy

photo added 12/19/08 - pushrods added for ailerons

photo added 12/19/08 - aileron action

photo added 12/18/08 - it is important to remove excess weight from the tail. an airplane that is tail heavy will be uncontrollable.

photo added 12/18/08 - i added more weight in the nose area to balance plane

photo added 12/18/08 - i used nylon wires instead of push rods

photo added 12/18/08 - a sunken permanently mounted servo - i used 5 min epoxy to cement the base of the servo

photo added 12/18/08 - temporarily positioning the electronics. notice the wings of this plane is flat without airfoil but with only 1° angle of attack

photo added 12/18/08 - this airplane will look nice - im expecting a nice performance on this plane

i will use the thick panel for the fuselage while the thin for the wings and the fins

i preliminary use 5min epoxy to cement the wood engine mounting to the nose

laying out of the wings - i dont use plans so everything is pure trial and error

a close up of a .25 engine installed.

foam cut into a one piece wing

coating and installation of the wingspar ontop and below wings to withstand stress

i use a tripod to hang plane and let dry

plane now assembled

control surfaces installed

ailerons installed

wheels now installed

i used a cheap P55 hanger wire as landing strutt and coated with marine epoxy

tail wheel is just improvised

this chinese looking boy is my nephew. hopefully he gets hooked up with airplanes too so he can assist me in building more planes when i become a senior.
